Needle Tart

If I'm not knitting or sewing something, I must be cooking something!

Random Thursday

Just a few things that have come up lately.
Thing the first: When we picked up Younger Son from college he said, "I'm in the right school. When I go to pick up the paper (note: his school gets the New York Times every day for each student) the recycling bin is full of the day's sports section." That's my boy!
Thing the second: On the day most of America was unwrapping goodies under the Tree (no, not the Solstice Tree, but Happy Solstice!) we went to the movies and out for Chinese. Seriously folks, we could have had an afternoon service in at least four of the movies and at the restaurant (note: it takes ten adult Jews to pray "officially"). Every one in the congregation seems to have had the same idea. We saw Sweeny Todd. It's very well done. Some songs were left out but, hey, it's a movie! And who wouldn't want to spend the day with Johnny Depp?
Thing the third: Wishing you all a happy winter holiday (whichever you celebrate) and lots of fun plans for the coming year.

Of Beds and Blocking

I went to pick up Younger Son at school today and had to warn him that he should be prepared to sleep on the floor if necessary tonight. Why would it be necessary he asked. Because I am blocking YSS's (Younger Son's Sweetie. Thanks, Amy) lace scarf and his bed was the only one not in use last night. I would have finished it sooner, but the lace-blocking wires I ordered from KnitPicks arrived with a bend in the middle and I had to wait for the replacements to get here. I checked as soon as we got home and, luckily the lace was thin and it dried quickly. Younger Son gets to use his bed tonight (he also took a picture, since my camera has gone walk-about). After the holidays (well, sometime in January I will post some sort of picture).
Otherwise the knitting continues. I used the sleet day to finish the embroidery and then some knitting. Socks, socks, scarves, and a hat. Think I could squeeze a sweater in there?

Snow Day!

Or rather, sleet and freezing rain day. Whatever you want to call it, it's a day off that I wasn't expecting. Now the question is: should I clean the house and get caught up on chores, or should I work on the embroidery project that is due on Saturday, or should I turn on the fireplace and get a nice cup of tea to go with my knitting?

Harmony?

I got the knitpicks Harmony needles back in October and I loved, loved, loved the looks of them, but wanted to wait for a special project to use them. All right, I'll confess, I had to wait until I started a new project on something other than DPNs. Last week, I was knitting away on a Shape it! scarf from Sally Melville's Knit Stitch book and the gorgeous wooden tip (size 8) came out of the metal holder. The glue, epoxy, or whatever came loose. No problem. I called Knitpicks and they promise to send out a new set of tips. Wonderful customer service, the lady who answered was well informed and we had a nice chat. It's a good thing. Today I was knitting along on the Mohawk hat from Domiknitrix (for Elder Son's Hanukkah) and lo and behold the size four tip separated. Is anyone else having this problem?
